Power
We have a weakness for power.
The engines and transmission systems of the BMW X SAV use the very latest in cutting-edge engineering. Take Valvetronic for example. This valve drive system regulates engine power using the fully-variable intake valves: air is dosed with unprecedented precision, ensuring that your X SAV obtains maximum power from the combustion process. Double-Vanos is a variable camshaft drive which works with the Digitial Motor Electonics (DME) to optimise engine efficiency. Taken together, these BMW systems increase the power of your engine, thereby enhancing your driving pleasure.

Power on demand.
The straight-six engine of the BMW X5 3.0i adapts tried-and-tested engine technology to create an engine which impresses with its smoothness as well as strength. Its Digital Motor Electronics (DME) guarantee not only its efficiency, they also ensure that the engine delivers its full potential power of 170 kW (231 bhp) and torque of 300 Nm at 3,500 rpm. And because this is a BMW engine, impressive power is achieved at no environmental cost: fuel consumption and emission figures remain impressively low

Innate intelligence.
The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) and Digital Diesel Electronics (DDE) monitor and manage all imporant engine functions. In real time, sensors constantly check data relating to everything from ignition to fuel injection, and they assess performance parameters such as engine speed, temperature and the position of the choke valve or accelerator. DME and DDE provide your X Series with instruments which ensure optimal engine performance under all conditions.

Four-wheeled innovation. xDrive.
The all-wheel drive system xDrive takes chassis engineering to new heights. Thanks to xDrive, the X SAV maintains perfect traction regardless of road conditions or the surface upon which you are driving. This intelligent system uses the Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect the slightest signs of instability and, if necessary, it reacts instantaneously. It distributes engine power flexibly and variably to each axle - the axle with the greatest traction receives the most power, delivering optimum road-holding, perfect performance on bends and excellent forward thrust.
